Course Spotlight: Arcadian Shores

Opened in 1974, Arcadian Shores Golf Club is one of the oldest courses here on the Grand Strand. It was the first solo design by Rees Jones, and resembles many of the elements found at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, a neighboring course designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Rees’ father.

Upon its initial opening, Arcadian Shores received immediate notoriety. Thanks to its strategic bunkering, natural lakes, and innovative layout it quickly became a favorite of local and visiting golfers alike.

Although the course has attracted many for its sheer historical value, golfers today flock to it for a different reason. After more than 40 years of wear and tear, Arcadian Shores closed for 4 ½ months last summer to implement a number of significant upgrades to the course and clubhouse.

When the course reopened in the fall of 2017, it was clear that the renovation had breathed new life into the fairways at Arcadian Shores. The course now features Sunday Ultradwarf Bermuda greens as well as new irrigation systems around each green to ensure that they remain the best at the beach. Hundreds of trees were removed and dozens of areas around the course have been beautified. Brand-new cart paths and on-course bathrooms add to the extravagance of the “new” Arcadian. And after your round, the brand-new clubhouse overlooking the 18th green is the ideal spot for a post-round drink.

Since its return to its former glory, Arcadian Shores has met and surpassed its previous status in the Myrtle Beach golf scene.
