If you like a flat course, you will enjoy playing Heron Point, an exquisite Willard Byrd resort design with a broad layout between holes, lots of tall Carolina pines, and well-guarded greens. Rated a 3.5 by Golf Digest, the course winds through residential beach districts and piney woods where, when least expected, you can spot wild turkey, alligators, foxes, deer, eagles, and hawks as you contemplate your next shot. Don’t let the scenery throw you out of focus, though.
Tricky bunkers, water obstacles (watch out for the 6th hole and the par-5 18th), and narrow fairways are your real tests of strength. See if you agree that the more difficult holes in this course are the 367-yard 5th and the 355th 15th, both of which stun you with sharp 90º turns in unexpected places. More a test of your short game than your driving skills, Heron Point is an enjoyable course for your whole golfing family. Enjoy extra amenities here such as the driving range, putting green, and snack bar.
This 6477-yard course features 18 holes with a 129 slope and a USGA rating of 70.9. The course greens are Tifdwarf Bermuda and the tees and fairways are Bermuda 419.
