TIPS FOR SUMMER GOLF ~ Hydration: Playing golf during South Carolina's hot and humid summer can be challenging and even dangerous. You can be safe in hot weather if you take the proper precautions. Two of the most important things to do are to stay hydrated and decrease your intensity on very hot days.
Keeping your body hydrated during a round of summer golf helps replace the water lost from sweating and prevents fatigue and poor physical performance. Feeling thirsty is not the best indicator of your body's fluid needs.
Thirst occurs after your body is already dehydrated. Also, your thirst is usually satisfied even before your body's water supply is fully replaced. This means that during your round you should drink water or a sports drink even if you do not feel thirsty.
Although water has always been thought as the best liquid to keep you hydrated, many experts are now encouraging the use of sports drinks for the task. However, before grabbing that bottle, check the label for anything that might not sit well with your dietary restrictions. Some sports drinks are high is sugar.
Another key to keeping hydrated is to simply slow up. Adapt to a pace of play that allows you to sit in the shade near the tee box for just a few minutes. Slow up a little on your walk to the green. Sure, we're all about pace of play in golf, but when it's hot and humid let that group that's pushing you play through.
The Myrtle Beach Area has great summer values for golf. Do plan to take full advantage of the deals, but keep yourself and the family hydrated. We want you healthy and planning to come back soon!
COMMENTS FROM GOLFERS LIKE YOU:
[Kathy Phillips, Assistant Golf Director, talked this month with former guest Bill Waters from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.] He and his golf buddies stayed at the Prince Resort this spring, enjoying one of our golf packages. He wanted to share his thrill of getting an eagle on a par 5 at Tidewater Golf Plantation. He expressed his gratitude in finally being able to tell his friends to get off his back about his newly revamped swing. Thank you, Mr. Waters, for sharing your experience with us. We are glad we were able to be a part of your golf vacation! We look forward to your return!

Eighteen holes of match or medal play will teach you more about your foe than will 18 years of dealing with him across a desk. ~ Grantland Rice
Golf appeals to the idiot in us and the child. Just how childlike golf players become is proven by their frequent inability to count past five. ~ John Updike
